Schlappen Feathers are the large feathers found at the base of the saddle and along side of the tail of a rooster. These hackles are opaque and webby and have a number of applications in warm water fly tying. Bass and predator fly tiers love them. They are great for large streamers and palmered hackle for the tails on poppers as well as foam and deer hair bass bugs.

Tying tip: When tying in a Schlappen feather moisten the portion that you are going to use with saliva. The saliva will break the barbules down slightly so that they won't marry together and will remain separated, providing lots of action when fishing.
